If elected in November, a Liberal Nationals Government will reserve the land of the former Reservoir site in East Bentleigh for community use.
Together with local sporting clubs, associations and residents the Liberal Nationals will consult about the future use of this land which will include the provision for sporting grounds, community recreation and open space areas.
Infrastructure elements currently in place for South East Water will be retained on the site as required and consultation will be conducted before planning begins.
Comments attributable to Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy:
“Melbourne’s population is bursting from unplanned, unmanaged population growth.
With the City of Glen Eira having the lowest open space of any council in Victoria, new parks must be added and I’m committed to doing that.
The choice is now clear, the Liberals who will create more parks in Glen Eira, or Labor who will sell that land for more houses.”
Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Bentleigh, Asher Judah:
“While Labor floods Bentleigh with high rise apartments in suburban streets, the Liberals are creating new parks for families.
Glen Eira has one of the lowest ratios of open space per capita in Melbourne.
My announcement is a game changer for open space in Bentleigh.
We will work with the community on retaining local biodiversity whilst also creating new facilities for East Bentleigh’s burgeoning sports community.”
Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Oakleigh, Andrew Edmonds:
“New community sport and open space at the East Bentleigh Reservoir site is an outstanding example of the Liberal Nationals’ commitment to grass roots sport and open green spaces that will benefit both the residents and sporting clubs of East Bentleigh and Oakleigh South.”
