Bus Shelter boost for Bentleigh

A Liberal Nationals Government will ease the frustration of travelling in Bentleigh through the installation of twelve bus shelters at key locations along Bentleigh’s bus corridors.

Melbourne’s population is now 5 million people and growing at an average of around 2,700 a week. This growth is putting enormous pressure on our local infrastructure and roads in Bentleigh.

Due to the lack of common sense infrastructure like bus shelters, metropolitan bus patronage continues to fall in our suburbs.

The $250,000 funding package will allow for shelter from weather and improved safety for bus commuters, particularly seniors and the disabled who have requested them.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Public Transport, David Davis:

“Appalling bus performance standards are continuing to have the effect of making more and more Melbournians choose not to take the bus.

Once these bus shelters are built, we will see an increase in patronage on these buses in Bentleigh.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Bentleigh, Asher Judah:

“I caught the bus home from McKinnon Secondary College almost every day for six years. Twenty-five years later, our local bus infrastructure has hardly changed.

If I’m elected as Member for Bentleigh, you will see more common sense, Bentleigh-focused ideas like this that ensures a higher quality of life for members of our community.

By investing in solid transport infrastructure, the Bentleigh community can start to get some relief from the population squeeze.

Bentleigh is a great place to live, but no one wants to wait for the bus in the rain. These bus shelters will give an immediate boost to our community.”
