New Mobile Police Station for Bentleigh

The Bentleigh community will have a dedicated mobile police station for deployment in local crime hot spots if the Liberal Nationals are elected in November.

According to Police Association figures, frontline police numbers have fallen under Daniel Andrews with 190 fewer frontline officers than in 2013 despite Victoria’s population increasing by over half a million.

These new mobile police stations will enable uniformed officers to be stationed in shopping strips and parks where they can respond quickly to violence, thefts and anti-social behaviour.

Mobile police stations have been previously deployed at events across Melbourne and the Liberal Nationals will expand this program to provide a proactive police presence in Bentleigh’s activity hubs.

Daniel Andrews and Labor have cut local police protecting the Bentleigh community despite rising crime rates and higher instances of violent crimes.

Crime Statistics Agency data in Bentleigh shows:

  • Theft is up 56 per cent;
  • Criminal offences are up 58 per cent;
  • Crimes against the person are up 97 per cent.

Only the Liberal Nationals will invest in more police officers on the beat and end the Labor Government’s soft-touch approach to crime.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Police, Edward O’Donohue:

“Daniel Andrews has let this crime wave grip our state. Only a Matthew Guy Government will deliver the tough on crime policies to smash street gangs, lock up the worst of the worst criminals, support victims and deliver the targeted local solutions to crime and perceptions of crime.

Under the Daniel Andrews Labor Government, violent crime rates are at record high levels, yet frontline police numbers are down by 190 full time officers.

A Liberal Nationals Government will increase frontline police numbers, fund more PSOs, introduce tougher sentences and make bail and parole harder to get.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Bentleigh, Asher Judah:

“The Bentleigh community has endured a 58 per cent increase in crime yet the State Government has cut our local police.

That’s why I have worked with Matthew Guy and the team to fund a Mobile Police Station in the heart of Bentleigh to increase the police presence and improve local safety.

I won’t sit by quietly and allow the Labor Government to make more cuts to local frontline police numbers.”
